Seaside-Inspired Basement

This project transformed a boring basement into a relaxing coastal oasis in the heart of the Midwest. Inspired by the tranquility of the shoreline, the design layers accents in varying shades of blue, reminiscent of calming waters, with soft neutral tans that echo the warmth of sandy beaches. The result is a light, inviting space that brings the beauty of the outdoors inside.

KHL guided the client through the selection of hard finishes, including paint and carpet, to establish the foundation of the design. From there, we curated a comprehensive Look Book featuring furnishings, artwork, lighting, and accessories that complemented the coastal vision. The only existing piece incorporated into the design was the client’s dining table, allowing the remainder of the space to be thoughtfully designed from the ground up while maintaining a cohesive and welcoming aesthetic.
